A square of warm light, 8 cm across, that goes up anywhere in about ten seconds. No wiring, no socket, no drilling. There is a metal plate with an adhesive back: stick the plate where you want the light, and the light snaps onto it with a magnet.
That magnet is the part people end up liking most. The light lifts straight off in your hand when the batteries need changing, then clicks back onto the same spot. Nothing to unscrew and nothing to line up again.
Six LEDs behind a diffuser, so it throws a proper pool of light rather than a single hot spot. A sensor in the middle brings it on when you come near and drops it again when you go, which is what makes it worth putting somewhere you only visit for thirty seconds at a time.
The light is warm rather than the hard blue white most sensor lights give you, and on a staircase at 2am that is the whole difference. Enough to see the edge of the step, not so much that you are properly awake by the time you get back to bed.
Stair treads, the inside of a wardrobe, the back of a deep cupboard, the shelf by the front door, the understairs cupboard that never had a light. Anywhere the wiring never reached and a lamp would look silly.
It runs on three AAA batteries, so it works in places with no power at all.
Sold singly or in packs of three, five and ten, because almost nobody stops at one. A staircase wants three or five, and the ten is for doing the whole house at once.
